Friday (December. 15th) witnessed the fierce first round among seven athletes across three different grade levels. As the first round participants, they were faced with the most unknown but the fear did not prevent them from showing their strongest dedication.
The game began with Becky, Stuart, and David Ding as the pioneer athletes, followed by Kyrie Annie, Selina and Kevin Yu, the 2016 runner up who was believed to be the winner of the that day’s game. Kevin beat everyone else in terms of his leading speed in the 400 meter run but immediately suffered from the lack of muscle glycogen storage due to the poor decision that he made on having lunch 10 minutes before the game. An insufficient energy supply unavoidably prevented him from performing at his maximum potentials for the next 6 rounds and he was unfortunately knocked out of the game due to physical discomfort.
David was actually the most promising candidate as he completed the first six rounds 20 seconds earlier than the second fastest but sadly used up all his stored energy and suffered from a huge oxygen deficit, therefore was not able to sustain continuous efforts in the last round of skipping. In contrast, Stuart was competing in a smarter way: He did not rush through the whole circuit; he took small breaks for Oxygen and ATP replenishment, and finally achieved a score of 8 minutes 28 seconds to be that day’s Strongest Male! Surprisingly, Becky shocked everyone else on site even more by performing standard pushups and being the first one to nail the whole workout, scoring 8 minutes 9 seconds. Bravos, Becky!!
The Monday (December. 22nd) was absolutely an epic battle between our rising star ROCK and the Great Ambition Ever Dennis who has already seriously proved himself in many years’ sports meetings.
Dennis was chosen by May, Blair and Dorothy as the leading athlete in the first group. He shot himself out like a bullet and had over a half lap lead than the three females by the time he completed the 400 meter run. Immediately followed were the brutal 5 rounds of Spartan trials: 5 Pull ups, 10 pushups, 20 squats. Muscle acidosis built up like crazy but his mental strength had no way to yield to the physical feeling of pain, which had won him nonstop cheers and applauses from the audiences. His passion for athletics and sports led to him finishing the whole game within 8 minutes!!
The ladies had no chance to surrender either. Although struggling to keep up with Dennis’s pace, all of them were still performing at their maximum efforts. Every squatting down to the bottom, each pushing up from the ground and numerous skipping repetitions along with the sweats and are best evidences for them getting stronger and will further accompany their fitness journey.
May ended up with 8 minutes 39 seconds to be Monday’s female champion!!
Girl power rolls!!
Despite being challenged by Dennis, ROCK was not losing his faith and confidence. In him were the identity to represent his beloved trainer and the mission to fulfill their commitments. Although he was behind in the first round of 400 meter run, he retained his physical power and soon excelled the others in the subsequent 5 deadly sets of Body Attacks. A tremendously high oxygen deficit forced him to breathe harder and harder with his face completely turning red as if it was bleeding. Muscle soreness and the corresponding feeling resembled fire burning struggled him to resist gravity in the last two sets of pull ups. But strongly driven by the ultimate toughness born into him, he was forced to continue and not quit.
He rose up erectly from the hundredth squat; chest remained up straight with eyes looking forward, marching his heavy but firm steps towards the last challenge set of 100 skippings, like a true warrior. The master had to bow down his head with the hat covering his eyes as not to show his sorrow: the suffering that his trainee had was nothing less than a heart attack on him.
The tears of cheerfulness did eventually burst out when it turned out ROCK earned himself the first place with a record of 7 minutes and 16 seconds. Thanks to past efforts from hard training and the will power for elite fitness which was strengthened even more this time.
The biggest surprise arises from this Friday’s game (December. 22nd). The title of dark horse of the year absolutely had to be honored to Jessica. Signing up the game for pure experience, she would never expect that she currently rank the first place in female group with the highest score of 7 minutes and 57 seconds. Can someone overcome physical limitations in spite of exercise history and others’ opinions? Yes, Jessica did it even though she used to suffer from running and exercising. And surprisingly, there was not even a single moment that she demonstrated the feeling of mystery in the game: she had her smiles on all the time!!
As a girl who possesses phenomenal voice, magnificent acting skills, she is now also featured by an explosive energy level, all of which must originate from her positive and optimistic life attitudes!! You look charming when exercising, Jessica! And we look forward to seeing your shine herself even more in the final!! Amazing Job!
It must be a heart-breaking decision for Mr. Butterfield to detain his strongest athlete Andrew Deng due to his unlawful actions against the school rules. But it is just because of this critical moment related to group honor that Mr. Butterfield's secret weapon Thomas fully released his potentials. 7 minutes and 41 seconds is his final score which is only 3 seconds behind Dennis’!! That is a sophisticated strategy, John!! Congratulations to the Butter group!
As predicted by the public, Andrew’s accumulated power and strength eventually exploded in Monday (December.25th)’s game after being prisoned in detention last Friday. He absolutely defended his fame as the champion from last year by beating ROCK nearly 2 minutes faster: 5 minute 30 seconds!!!! Everyone onsite was thrilled and amazed at his rocketing pace. It was certainly the most exciting part!!
So what about Mr. Bright, our most popular grade 10 spiritual leader who has received a countless number of fans for his kindness and selflessness? Sadly, sadly, sadly, his ultimate fuel from the students did not work that well as expected as due to a similar reason as the 2016 third place Sunny had: detraining for the past two months and therefore suffered the same fate as being eliminated from the game. But Bright, you still gotta put up your signature juicy smile and stay strong as you always do!
But perhaps the most touching moment and inspiration in the last round of game was seen in Neil who proved himself regardless of physical conditions. As a road cyclist who suffered a severe injury this summer, he is still in the phase of recovery, yet it did not prevent him from competing for himself.
Although staying behind everyone else in the first round of 400 meter run, his strong than ever persistence did not quit on him in the following 6 rounds. Breathe was getting heavier and more difficult, he had to deeply roar in air which made the whole surroundings even tremble. Sweats were rushing down from his face like a waterfall, blurring his vision, but he dare not slow down the pace. The most beautiful scene that we have ever seen was the sunlight reflecting on the droplets dripped from a tough guy’s face. Per his incredible perseverance, he earned himself the ticket towards to the final by a score of 8 minutes 10 seconds.
Ranking as of 1/3/2018
By now, we have completed the whole preliminary rounds and thumbs up to all participants because they are brave enough to accept the toughest physical challenge they can ever experience and demonstrated their best of best! May everyone Stay Strong and we look forward to seeing you at the final in January!
